I'm going to be in England for a study abroad during the month of July and I've never been anywhere in Europe before so it'll be my first time visiting no matter what. They give us a few long weekends to travel and I have to choose between Edinburgh and Dublin. Note that, for me, it's actually a cheaper flight to Dublin! Just tell me what you think and which you would choose if you've been to both before or what... and any advice too. Thanks for your two cents in advance!

BOTH great, but Edinburgh MUCH more classy....The Irish Republic uses the EURO, and DUBLIN is VERY expensive as a result compared to any part of the UK, and I regret a bit of a dirty dump...People are lovely all the same.....However, posting in the UK section, of which IRELAND is not a part, means you do not really get the feelings of the locals who really love the place.....POST in the IRELAND section too?! Only Northern Ireland is part of the UK which I presume you do know coming here to study?

I was brought up in North Wales, and on the route to the town of Holyhead, where the boats sailed to go to near DUBLIN...........We were so close, but most locals went once, and were not that impressed frankly.......Tended to be an experience you did not repeat....Been a couple of times since....As I said.. an expensive dump!!!

If you intend to invest your holyday in a different place then Dublin is that place, see more with hotelbye . In Dublin you will see many interesting things and areas, the Dublin Zoo and The National Gallery of Ireland are just two of the most truly effective attractions here. Trinity College can be a great interest for just about any tourist. Trinity College is in the centre of the capital and is really a loaded high in amazing history. This university is the oldest in Ireland and has been created in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I.

Edinburgh.

Been to both. They both have a similar atmosphere but Edinburgh has a lot more to do and see.

Poor old Dublin was destroyed in the 60s and 70s by the City Council. Edinburgh Council tried at the same time, but they failed, and it still has lots of old buildings. Edinburgh has been a building site since the German tram plot. They built the trans-continental railroad in the USA in less time!

Both have great folk music and pubs, theatre and concerts.

Edinburg justifies some time of your lifetime to know it and this is actually the place to begin hotelbye . Among the areas where you will have a fantastic outing with all the household could be the Edinburgh Zoo. That zoo is the house to around 1,000 fabulous creatures, including the UK's only huge pandas. The Zoo is situated in wonderful parkland settings and involves incredible flamingos, pretty koalas and cheeky chimpanzees. Edinburg is not only any city; Edinburg is the town to spend your household holyday, a holyday that will never be forgotten.

You can also go by train from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh. the journey takes 4 hours 30 minutes city centre to city centre. No journeys to and from airports and city centres, long check ins or extra taxes and you will see much of the country as you travel. The cheapest fares are those you book well in advance for specifically timed trains. Booking opens 12 weeks before your journey and there are 1 to 2 trains per hour

To collect your tickets from the station you will need the same credit card you used on line and your booking reference number

Most tourists seem to like Edinburgh

Edinburgh! There's so much to see and do! Princes Street, the Castle, Royal Mile etc and there's loads of cute wee pubs.

Ive been to edingburgh once. wasnt impressed. DUBLIN is frigging incredible! Ive been three times now. Onece for my birthday, once for just a random trip with friends, and I went NYE 2011. it was sooooo good, so lively and fun. so much to do and see, Oscar Wildes house is there which is a cultural favourite of mine. Aside from that the shopping is cool, the irish accents are contagious and incredibly sexy and the drinking is so fun!!!

you wont regret it if you go

Both nice. Don't forget you have the currency/exchange issues with Dublin (which uses euros), whereas Edinburugh is part of the UK and uses pounds.
