You will need a UK passport to stay and work in the United Kingdom. The passport of the British Virgin Islands authorizes you to stay as visitor for 6 month, but not to work. .. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/ukvqr;jsessionid=EEB037A0219E2813BDA0C99D9F1EA766.tomcat1?redirect=true&promoId=1910262&reason=Work&nationality=British+Virgin+Islands&location=British+Virgin+Islands ..

You'll need to check with the UK Border Agency to confirm for certain.

But, I think BVI nationals were British Overseas Territories Citizens and under the British Overseas Territory Act they became eligible for British citizenship in 2002. You may well need to obtain proof of that, ie get a British passport, before you'd have the right to live and work in the UK. If you contact the UKBA they'll be able to give you a definite answer.
