Corfe Castle in Dorset on the main road from Wareham to Swanage has an absolutely iconic ruined castle. Also a steam train runs past it down to Swanage which is good old-fashioned holiday resort with an excellent beach. Nearby is the deserted village of Tyneham and from there it is a level mile walk down to Worbarrow Bay, regarded by many as the finest bay in England. Above Worbarrow Bay is Flower's Barrow from the top of which are stunning views. It is an ancient hill fort. Also nearby is the cottage of Lawrence of Arabia at Cloud's Hill and the church at which he is buried in Moreton, the Tank Museum at Bovington and Monkey World.
Cornwall is a world heritage site for its industrial history - in particular mining. Dotted around the county are hundreds of disused engine houses such as the one I have used on my picture. Some can be visited. Also, in the north of Cornwall, is the famous Tintagel ruins. Of course Cornwall has many brilliant beaches and stunning clifftop walks.

The UK is covered in ruins, from ancient British to the modern industrial era.
When you get to your destination, go buy an Ordinance Survey Map for the area you are visiting, all the ruins are listed.
