My ancestors left the area around Glasgow a hundred years ago, and I want to go visit the area, but I am also a serious punk rocker, and I want to go to some areas with a strong scene...
Any suggestions?

Punk is not dead in the UK, it's still very alive!!!

If you want to retrace your routes to Glasgow there's a good music scene with plenty of Punk gigs happening at The Garage and The Cathouse, check out http://www.cplweb.com/ for gig info.

London will always have a punk scene, Camden is full of real punks (as well as the posers and kids etc etc) Shop around and you'll find some good clothes and records (as well as a bunch of crap too if I'm honest)

I live in Manchester, there's a good punk community here. My punk friends often talk about a vibrant community called "mancpunkscene" but i'm having dificulty finding there website right now, sorry!

There's a website called metaltravelguide.com which although it specialises in metal places around the globe, it often features other rock stuff including punk.

Basically, don't let the other ignorant "answers" put you off coming to this country. You will find fellow-punks in most cities, but you will also find ignorant fools too (probably much like wherever you live right now and the rest of the world)

Good luck!

we are talking cutting-side punk? ok. properly, i could say the two uk punk or l. a. punk wins throughout this checklist. ny has a custom approximately a week. l. a. gave the effect of that they had a minimum of one practice on a daily basis. i could say uk wins by way of fact London on my own has around 2 or 3 punk shows on a regular basis. London has Camden city, Mecca of all issues punk (besides the undeniable fact that it style of feels to be getting company regrettably, stinking Weekend Warriors) London has far extra squats and anarchists than everywhere else... And London has each and every age archives. To sum it up, i could ought to assert, by no ability ignore Boston or DC.

Huddersfield used to maintain a punk scene due to it being the last place Sid Vicious played live.

'Real' punk rockers are a very rare breed these days,I haven't seen one in the UK for years. There are afew pretencious ones round occassionally in their designer gear and up to the date mobile phones-are these what you mean????

Go up to the Shetlands, they are about as out of date as you are, you will fit right in.
