Are there any good art galleries in these areas - I'm looking to furnish a house down there for a friend and need to pick up some nice pieces - also framers? Thanks...

Northallerton: Platinum, Hares Studio
Darlington: Upstairs Gallery
Durham: Seasons
Search http://www.yell.com for the addresses and phone numbers.
There's far more choice of places in Newcastle... you could always steal something from the Baltic... :-)
