After my friend and I graduate from High School in one year, we will move to England for about a year just to work and live there and travel. I've heard that London is the most expensive city in the world but I really don't want to live in some hick town either. Is there anywhere in england that you know of that has most of the excitement/ a bit of the glamour that London has, but maybe less expensive? I also need to get a job so if there's anyone from England on here, any ideas of where I could work?

As you are not from the EEA (European Economic Area), unless you have skills that we are desperately short of you stand a snowball in hells chance of getting a work permit here...have a look at the new immigration laws at this government site...

I live in North London, and it's expensive, but for me, no more so than any other major town or city in the UK (apart from property prices) . Given the exhange rate at the moment, you would probably consider things over here to be quite reasonable. As for work, there are plenty of jobs if you look around, or go for an agency. It depends what kind of job you are looking for.

If you want to be reasonably close to London, then the City of Oxford is very cosmopolitan.

Right away from London, but with a good night life is the City (and County) of Bristol. It's in the Souh West - google it to see what you think. It's position is good in that there is good communication with London, but also easy access to the Roman City of Bath and then on down to Devon and Cornwall which are good for sea breaks.

The more up north you go the cheaper it is, but really it depends what you want out of a city. London is great, but as you said it is expensive. I love Cambridge, Windsor and Southampton. Currently I live in Nottingham, city of Robin Hood, that's okay I suppose. It has good nightlife and is great for shopping but unfortunately has a few areas in it which make you think 'hmmm..' If you go on the tourist sites then they are good for information. Also, Leeds and Liverpool are lovely places. Good luck with your search!!!

I live in england, and it is a very nice place!

everyone is really friendly and you will find work in no time!

I don't know what kind of job you are looking for or what skills you

have but over here we have recruitment agencies, not sure whether you have them but there are literally millions! and basically you need to register yourself with them, bring proof of ID and the right to live and work in the UK and they will find all sorts of jobs for you.

There is one recruitment which I am with now called Manpower and they are very good, just check out there website.

Erm im not sure of any places that are like London, but I live near Brighton (which is also a city) and thats just as good and not expensive at all lots of glitz and glamor (:

I hope this helped you, and best wishes to you both.

To be honest, STAY AWAY FROM LONDON.

Don't go to Liverpool, Manchester, London.

Go to the countryside, either that or don't come at all mate :)

(I live in North London)
