My fiancee and I are planning our honeymoon there (2 weeks April 12th through 24th of '08), and he thinks it's going to be cold (cold enough for thermals). We are visiting England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. How DO we need to dress for this time of year?

It's been terrible all year here with some sporadic bursts of sun...April is normally a very wet month, and pretty cold too. I would definitely bring your thermals, as you really can't trust the erratic British weather!

I'd definitely come prepared. Weather in the UK is far from predictable but April is usually not wonderful (it's not been unknown to have a bit of snow as late as April, especially in Scotland). I'd bring some winter clothing as well as a few summer items. Dressing in layers is the best option so you can take things off if you need to because it can get warm indoors. You probably won't need your thermals unless you're going up to the Highlands, where it can get very cold if you go up the hills and/or mountains.

An umbrella is a good investment too since you'll most likely be seeing plenty of rain!

April this year was when we had our summer, temperatures nearly hitting 30oc! That is NOT the norm though. April is fickle, it could be comfortably warm (15-20oc, 60-70f) or it could be nearly freezing with sleet and hail, weve had blizzards before in April. Its most likely to be about 60f though, maybe getting a little warmer the closer May becomes. It depends, in Britain you can never forecast more than a few days ahead. You should be fine with jeans, a t-shirt and light jacket at this time of year but bring your thermals just in case! Out of interest where are you coming from?, because it will feel a lot colder to a floridaian than a canadian for example! Whatever the weather enjoy your honeymoon!

It'll more than likely be wet, but we had some warm days in April this year in Ireland. The best thing to do is look up some weather websites a few days before you leave, and pack accordingly. Bring rain gear anyway, just in case.

There are only about 3 days a year I feel safe leaving the house without my knee length wool coat. And do you know the phrase 'April showers'? Well, usually it's more accurately 'April snow'. That's the UK for you... c'est la vie

the weather in England is famously variable and April is the most variable month of them all.

more often than not it can be mild or even warm- but often rains a lot, april is known for it's sporadic 'april showers'

however it *could* be cold, frosts in april are not unheard-of.

basically pack a variety of clothes including a couple of warm jumpers and a waterproof overcoat, just in case. It's better to be safe than sorry (or wet!)

have a good trip.

Awful, just like every other month of the year.

Only kidding. Hard to say it could be boiling, it could be freezing, there could even be a tornado. My advice is bring clothes for every weather.
