Would agree with other suggestions about Dover Castle. The wartime tunnels are fab and just a little bit scary for kids - great fun!

Alternatively, why not go to a good farm shop and buy ingredients for some food to cook from scratch with the kids?

Buy some seeds and pot them up? I remember growing beans in a jar with blotting paper when I was a kid and loving it.

Oh, and don't forget the steam trains at Sittingbourne or Tenterden, kids love a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine type trains (or Hogwarts Express if they're a bit older).

Leeds Castle has already been suggested...depending on where in Kent you are you could go to Dover Castle....that is a superb day out. Then you could go to the National Trust spot on top of the cliffs and watch all the ferries coming in and out...take a picnic, even if you have to eat it in your car!

Museums? English Heritage sites? Or perhaps take a look around the interior of Rochester or Canterbury Cathedral.

Can't say, Amelia, it's summer, and I haven't seen rain here in South Australia for several weeks.
