When Cornwall is one of the poorest places in the UK?
Cornwall is by far one of the poorest areas in the UK, in fact it doesn't fare that well compared to most of Europe. On average earnings were 25% below the UK national average in 2002 and the trend seems to indicate this gap is growing. The actual figure was £18,096 compared with £24,164 in the rest of the country.
In a related earnings survey only Conwy in Wales and Moray in Scotland fared worse.

Rural areas always have low crime rates....long term residents, everyone knows everyone else, so strangers stand out and people look after their neighbours.............

It is nothing to do with income or poverty it is about quality of life and attitude.

I have two homes one in a rural community with one neighbour and the next is 2 miles away I know their names, what jobs they do, their birthdays and families from 10 miles around at least ..........where I can and often do leave my house door unlocked ( and everyone does) a few years ago I had a phone call while I was shopping in the local town from a neighbour who asked if I had locked up..."no"...she said I will go and lock the house for you then as I have just had a phone call from another neighbour who says there is a strange car in the area......... we look after each other and watch each others backs.

I have a home in an urban area...I don't know the name of my next door neigbours let alone the ones 100- 200 or 500 yards away............I wouldn't leave my car unlocked to carry shopping in as I would be concerned anything in it or the car would disappear, I wouldn't be upstairs and leave a window or door unlocked or open downstairs.........and it is in a very nice area.... but if I was to be drop dead there no one would know, no one would report not seeing me.............people are completely different with a different mentality.

Is RURAL mainly and people know each other!!! People may have less money than some but that does NOT mean they have to turn to crime!Think of what must be the average wage in Greater London!

Conwy and Moray are really pleasant AND safe places.

Cornwall isn't poor - they have one of the best tourism in England.

The crime in Cornwall is low because everyone works as a community! They actually live in a stunning place and would like it too stay that way!

All rural areas have low crime rates. People talk to each other and help each other out. They don't rob each other.

It's a different life to living in large towns. I have lived in London and now live in rural Hampshire. It's like living in a different country.
