I'm visiting my family in England, and trying to work out if it's easier to go straight to my sisters from the airport, or should I stay in London.

There is not a direct train to Woking but you can avoid Central London.

There is a train (normally 1 or 2 an hour) from Gatwick to Reading that stops at Guildford about 4 miles from Woking. I would have thought your sister could pick you up from there, otherwise there are frequent trains between Guildford and Woking.

The other alternative is to get any train from Gatwick into London that stops at Clapham Junction. From here there are 4 or 5 trains an hour to Woking.

Gatwick Express goes to Victoria, not Paddington. If you choose to go to London by train, the Gatwick Express is the most expensive. There are other, cheaper trains from Gatwick Airport to Victoria but they may take a little longer. Some of them make just a couple of stops. At Victoria, take the Underground's District Line (westbound) directly to Hammersmith. Catch a train that's going to Ealing or Richmond, but not Wimbledon.
