I'm 16, I'll be 17 next year in January, I'm in tenth grade when I get there i'll be in 11th grade.(for the next school year.) Also how do they do the whole school thing in England? And will I be behind? I'm doing a foreign exchange student program, is there anyway I could go to a school without a uniform, if so what schools don't require one?
Thanks . <3

You'd be in lower sixth form, or first year of collage. Otherwise known as year 12 (but doesn't usually get called that). Most sixth forms/collages don't have a uniform, but I guess it depends on which one you go to.

The school system in England is a two tier system where in the primary school, it goes from reception to year 6, which is ages 5 to 11. Then it's on to secondary school, which is year 7 to year 11, which is ages 11 to 16. Again though, it does depend on where you come from, where I live you have a three tier system where it starts in primary school (reception to year 4- ages 5 to 9), then middle school (year 5 to year 8- ages 9 to 13), and then upper school (year 9 to year 11- ages 13 to 16). Sixth form and collage is the same for two and three tier systems.

If you are doing a school exchange then it will be with a certain school...most schools have websites so you will need to go on there and see if that school has uniforms...not all schools in the UK do.

You would be in lower 6th which is non compulsory education, if the school uses uniforms generally the 6th form ( 2 years of it) either has their own uniform to separate them as 6th form from the rest of the school or it is a more relaxed uniform....some have no uniform but that is only if the school as a whole doesn't have it.... equality laws here in the UK mean even that has to be 'equal'

"And will I be behind?" 6th form education is high...students who stay on at 6th form because they are high graded students, while others go to college ( both high, middle and low graded students) so 6th form you will be with students who got good grades in their GCSEs and are more likely to take academic subjects get higher grades in A levels and go onto University

From this day, at you being 16years and 2months ish - you'd be in year 11.

As of September you'd be in lower Sixth form (Year 12)

Most schools require uniform... but in most schools, when you get into Sixth form you don't need to wear it anymore

We leave school at 16.. So you'll be at Sixth form or College.. Colleges don't require a uniform.. You wear what you want.. Sixth form I'm not sure about..

I think you're worrying too much - You're American, they'll like you.. Chill.
