I couldn't find the answer to this online. It was just a bunch of angry, rude responses. Does anyone know?

It's a cultural stereotype. People from more urban areas like to think that people in rural areas are all inbred animal-shagging yokels, not because it's true but making rural people sound stupid reinforces their belief that they're somehow more sophisticated.

Wales is one of the more rural areas of the UK, so they end up with that label. Just like in America people from LA or New York like to stereotype people from the deep south as a bunch of sister-marrying inbreeders.

Having spent a few intimate evenings with ladies (and gentlemen) from the Welsh valleys, I can say that sheep were never on the agenda.

I thought the sheep-shaggers were all in Derby. Thats what the Notts Forest fans were saying, anyway. Whatever, I think you'll have protection under the Human Rights Act to persue the activity as long as you give ample guidance to the sheep about their rights and availability of trained counsellors. The persons who said the insult will, quite obviously, be subject to arrest, questioning, a criminal record and deportation if possible. The local council will divert funds from the Hospital in your area to set up a 'Sheep-shagger Awareness group' and appoint a representative to fight for your rights. You should expect compensation for the hurt and psychological damage the incident caused.

There are a great many sheep farms in Wales. The term sheep shagger is simply an ignorant offensive

form of insult or racist slur. A bit like calling a black person Sambo

It is a fact that sheep walk the streets in rural (and not so rural) parts of Wales.

It is also a fact that agriculture is big business in Wales.

Actually it is just a 'leg pull', a 'wind-up' and nothing else. There are probably more sheep per capita in Scotland. The Scottish, however, prefer whisky to sheep.

P.s. By the way, a 'sambo' is the child of a black person and a native american. It should not be treated as a slur - just as old fashioned. (Like mulatto or creole.)
