Myself and a few friends are considering a day trip to france, I've looked it up and by the looks of it it's £5 return (foot passengers) on the ferry. Basically I wondered how long the ferry will take? Where's the best port to go? What would you advice doing and seeing? Is it usually a good day out? and any other advice or tips in general please. All help is REALLY appreciated.

Am I right in assuming you're going from Dover to Calais on a P&O?

where in France did you want to go? if it's just over to Calais and back you're not going to see anything much French, you're going to see lots of hypermarkets ... better would be Boulogne but it's a much longer crossing ... for ferries look at this website

better by far would be to take Eurostar to Lille Paris (or even Brussels - I know Brussels isn't in France but it's a nice place to go to and very easy by Eurostar) ... it's quick, very comfortable and you'll see something much more French

You'd be best going to Paris on the Eurostar. Book well in advance and it's suprisingly cheap, it only takes two hours London to Paris.
