What are jobs in high demand in the UK?

I'm 17 and Californian and I really want to move there after I'm done with college in the states and have an established career.. I'd say 24, about. Besides marrying a Brit which I think is shallow anyways, (I have a boyfriend), what jobs should I consider studying for that'll at least get the emigration offices to consider my request for a visa? Is a student visa easier to acquire? My boyfriend and I really would like to emigrate legally, but are a bit disheartened by the strict visa point system thing. Can someone give me advise and insight?

Highly specialised jobs in science, medicine, engineering and the arts are your best bet. Don't rely on the shortage occupations as these are subject to change all the time. For instance, in the past six months vets and biology teachers have been removed.



Only 121 occupations qualify for a work visa at the moment and the list gets smaller each year to protect the resident workforce.



Student visas are easier to acquire as you only need acceptance from an education provider licensed to offer courses to non EEA student and enough money (about £21,000 per year on average) to support yourselves and pay your tuition fees. However you face work restrictions as a student. If you are studying at degree level or above at a higher education provider (University) you can work 20 hours during term and full time in vacations. If you are at a publicly funded further education establishment you can only work 10 hours per week and if you are at a private establishment you cannot work at all.

Hey balme you own Government....they made it too difficult for British to live in the US ( the ones that wished to) so our Govenrment reflected the same policy...difference is we are only a small island and if we took everyone who could come/has the right to come...our island would sink.



You can get a student visa, but once you have finished studying you are required to go home and time spent here as a student does not count towards citizenship...it is also very expensive to study here for ANYONE including out own students.



One of the posters has already given you the link to 'Shortage occupation list'....this is NOW in 8 years time things could change, border controls could change, shortages could change and you could change your mind........ my advice to you is train for and do a job you love not one to achieve a visa as you spend a long time at work in your life and if you like what you do it helps..... if you don't then days are long and life is not so good...................................

You could come here as a student but would have to leave when your studies are over...and you would have to have a shed load of money to come here to study...

This all may sound very harsh to you but it is even harder for UK citizens to move to the US to live and work...
