I'd like to travel round and see as much as possible. I love beaches and would like to base myself around the coast. Any suggestions for accommodation are much appreciated too!

Well, some of the places I like best in Cornwall are;

Port Isaac,

Padstow,

Boscastle,

Tintagel,

Newquay,

Lands End,

The Lizard,

Polperro,

Fowey, and Looe,

And then of course ther is goonhilly, and The Eden Project.

Sorry, can't really help with accommodation, but pick up a copy of The Daltons Weekly from your newsagent, you will find a good range of accommodation in this paper!

Lucky you, wish I was going too, here are just some of my favoriots:

The Lost Gardens of Heligan (huge gardens restored to former glory, will take a whole day)

Lands End is a must (although you have to pay, there is plenty for you to see)

Watergate Bay (just outside of Newquay a 3 mile long beautiful golden beach it doesnt cost anything)

Newquay Zoo

Boscastle (village of the awful floods a couple of years ago but still a beautiful & livley, also has a witchcraft museum)

Tintagle (full of magical history about King Arthur & Merlin)

Marazion - St Michales Mount (fab day out , if the tide is high you can get a boat to the mount, at low tide you can walk across the causeway)

Padstow (the home of Rick Stein & his resturants, a beautiful little harbour village that is always busy)

Truro (Cornwall's cathedral city, beautiful to walk around and the cathedral has a great cafe at the back run by the church)

Pendennis Castle (built by Henry 8th with superb views & some times activity days where they shoot the cannons & dress up)

Cornish Cider Farm (see the day to day activities of making cider, there is a farm & cider tasting for the adults YUM)

Strawberry picking

Also get to the beaches, they are amongst some of the most beautiful in the UK and they cost you nothing for the whole day (ok maybe parking).

Above all have fun, make some great memories and enjoy Cornwall! Get in touch if you want anymore info!

St Ives would be a brilliant place to base yourself. You can head south along the north coast towards St Just. The scenery along there is what I call Ye Olde Worlde Cornwall - how it was in the olden days - beautiful. Lands End is a bit of a money grabber and you have to pay to park and look around. Come down and round towards the Lizard Point where you can walk down to the lovely tea room and watch the wild seals in the sea. From St Ives you could head north towards Perranporth which has a fantastic beach but perilous undercurrents so beware if you are in the water on anything that floats! Head north again towards Newquay and Padstow. From Padstow you can hire a bike and cycle along the old Camel Railway (Camel because of the river Camel) to Wadebridge - the railway line has been turned into a cycle path. There is also Rick Stein's cookery school where you can sample the dishes that the students have made and they are amazing. If you head towards the south coast of Cornwall you will find quaint villages such as Mevagissey and Polperro.

Whatever you do you will have a fabulous time. Oh, and there is one more thing - the Cornish do things "dreckly" which means in their own time, slow and laid back. Hope this helps.

I personally don't like Land's End or Newquay, both "tacky". I usually recommend the Mevagissey area. You are near the Eden Project and Heligan Gardens, the castle at Lostwithiel, and several good beaches. In particular, I like Pentewan, which also has a silted up, disused harbour, from where china clay was exported, Carne or Porthpean beaches. It is picturesque, as is Mevagissey itself, an old fishing village. Also nearby are Charlestown, an ancient port often used in television historical series, the old roundhouses at Veryan, and good shopping in St Austell or Truro. The South Coast is much gentler weatherwise, and in May/June, the shrubs are out of this world.

The North Coast is harsher, but has spectacular scenery, with towering cliffs. Try the expensive aristocrats' territory of Rock and Padstow (recommended beach, Daymer Bay), and the quaint Churches of Porthilly and St Enodoc (in the middle of a golf course on the sand dunes, and once covered by the sand. You can also visit the nearly reconstructed village of Boscastle, and King Arthur's Castle at Tintagel. To the north of the county is Bude, not much of a town, a real tourist trap, but good safe beaches at Summerleaze and nearby Widemouth Bay.

At the South, there is St Michael's Mount with the beach at Marazion, and the outdoor cliffside Minack Theatre.

Don't forget inland, Bodmin Moor with its tors, Jamaica Inn and Dozmary Pool, which is supposed to be bottomless, and have received King Arthur's sword, Excaliber.

Edit: Agree with Maid in Cornwall, if you go St Austell way, don't bother with Carlyon Bay. St Austell town centre is currently going through a massive refurbishment, but public transport links from there are some of the best in Cornwall.

Trust people who live here to guide you in the right directions. Steffi, and myself know the score, and places to see, and places to avoid. Steffi's right, Lands End, and Newquay are both places that are over rated, "tacky" and comercialised. Another place that isn't up my street is St Austell, it's got a huge ugly man made beach, and a town resembling a building site, But it is central for all area's of Cornwall, and it's got a brand new travel lodge which is cheap!!!!

Personally, I would start with Looe and Polperro, 2 very attractive resorts, and probably the closest resorts to you when you cross the Tamar bridge. Then on to Fowey, probably stopping off at my gorgeous village (Lerryn,) on the way, and following the road through to the car ferry to take you across to Fowey. From Fowey, I would then try and get the passenger ferry that takes you to Mevagissey for a day trip, and also across the Fowey river to Polruan, another pretty village worthy of a visit.

As most people have stated, St Ives is nice, but again, very "touristy" so a bit over rated. Try and get to "Doc Martin's" village, Port Issac, and also King Arthurs Tintagel. To be honest, a week just isn't enough to see all the lovely places Cornwall has to offer, but I will put a few links on for you to have a look at. Enjoy your stay.

Just a few pictures for you to browse through, and make some choices.

I also look after a gorgeous property in Polruan. It's near to the water, has gorgeous views, and is a good central base for travelling around the area, and it's tastefully decorated, and very clean.

Love that county. Notice someone has given you a great list of links.

Almost certainly the case that one week is not enough. You will never fit it all in if you are fond of travel.

My two favourites are Newquay and Portloe.

Enjoy.

I can't top Pumpkin's local knowledge, but would like to add an old favourite of mine - Mousehole.

You can even go across to the Isles of Scilly from Penzance.
