Hi,

I am taking mid week break in Cornwall. I have never been there, can you recommend some places to go and why i should go there? I intend to book a hotel / B&B.

That's a good idea. All the traffic will be going the other way, in both directions!

If you want the bleak but dramatic North Coast, with towering cliffs and pounding seas, try Port Isaac (home of Doc Martin), Boscastle (near enough recovered from the floods), Tintagel (wonderful, ancient castle with spectacular views and walks). You can visit Rock and Padstow, though I don't recommend staying there, or going for long, it is too expensive.

The South Coast is mild and much kinder. I recommend Falmouth, Fowey, Looe, Pentewan and Mevagissey. Within easy reach are various castles, Lost Gardens of Heligan, and you can't miss the Eden Project.

Further down into Cornwall, there are Penzance, Marazion, St Ives, St Michael's Mount, the Cliff Theatre at Minack, and the Space Museum at Goonhilly. Truro has a good shopping centre, and the youngest Cathedral in England.

I don't recommend Newquay (tacky) unless you want surfing or a hectic nightlife, or Land's End (not worth the money).

Launceston, the Gateway to Cornwall, is a quaint old town worth a visit if by-passing on the A30 dual carriageway, with a Norman Castle, and good coffee shops.

OK, so steffi may have plenty of ideas - but going to those places will not do cornwall justice.

Polzeath is a beach on the North coast. There are static caravan parks in polzeath and in the area which you can rent out for weeks etc. These are great for holidays especially the sites that are 2 mins walk from the beach.

Polzeath is a great beach for walking, as are the cliffs either side of it, and it is also a great beach for surfing. Also, a few minutes drive down the coast is Rock and then across the other side of the estuary is Padstow - the world famous home of Rick Stein. There is plenty of shops, restaurants and boat rides.

Here are the websites of a couple of static caravan parks that I have been to and make a fantastic break.

Wherever you go, be safe and have a great time!

Hi

Cornwall is very busy until mid september and you may be better off coming down here in late september or even early october, because a lot of places are booked until september meaning you may have difficulty finding accommodation. It will also be a lot quieter for you and the weather may be better. The weather for August has been terrible down here and sometimes we actually have nicer weather in September and October sometimes isn't bad.

I would definately avoid Newquay unless you enjoy heavy night life. It does quieten down from september onwards but it is still tacky. I would agree with Connor try places like Polzeath, St Minver, Padstow, Wadebridge etc in North Cornwall. It is not as busy as places like Newquay. There are lovely beaches which are clean & safe & lots of things to do, with themeparks nearby if you have kids, a cinema in Wadebridge and lots more. It is also within easy distance of the Eden Project.
